FAQ
About product
Yes, the straws are 100% organic. We do not use any chemicals in the process.
Sutu reed straws can last for months or a year with proper care. Durability is also dependant on the intense of the usage.
As the straws are 100% organic the diameter varies typically between 6-9 mm. Single-use straws have wider range, also smaller diameter included.
All the straws have passed mechanical cleaning (outside, inside), thermal treatment and quality control. The process is approved by Veterinary and Food Board of Estonian Republic.
Reed is a plant widely growing on the coastline of the seas, lakes and rivers. In old times it was a good material to build the roofs for houses and it kept the warmth. Nowadays reed is not needed for this purpose anymore. Still, to keep the coastline clean and local eco-system functioning the reed plants have to be harvested every year.
On the coastline of our UNESCO biosphere island Saaremaa we have extensive areas of high quality reed plants. Compared to other straws (eg bamboo) it is much more eco-friendly as each purchase of Sutu straws is helping to keep the coastline clean.
Return policy
We have the 14 days return policy for the purchases by private persons in our web. All the straws should be clean, not used and in the original package. Custom orders cannot be returned.
The refund will be done immediately after the purchased items are returned to us. Maximum period for the refund is 14 days.
Usage at home
All the smaller packs of Sutu straws are reusable. If you purchased 4-pack or 10-pack you can be sure you have got the handpicked and best quality straws. Just provide the proper care to them and check before each usage they do not have any defect appeared.
In the case of 200-pack you can choose between reusable and single-use straws. Bigger packs are meant for business usage in restaurants, bars, hotels, event organising etc. Therefore 1000-pack contains only simple and single-use straws.
The need for the brush is dependant on the drink. The brush is needed if you have particles of the drink inside the straw, e.g. after drinking a smoothie. Just move the brush through the straw several times. You might need to repeat it from another side as well.
Yes, you can put your straw in a dishwasher. Although if possible we recommend the hand wash as it allows to keep the initial look of the straw longer. It is important to let it dry after washing.
Just let the air to go into the straws. If possible it is the best to keep them upright allowing the remaining water to drain.
Usage for businesses
We have both options available: single-use and reusable straws. Depending on the concept of your business you might prefer one or another.
Single-use straw is meant for one-time usage, although the customer can reuse the straw for his/her next drink too.
If the reusable straw fits better to your concept you just need to wash it properly after usage (dishwasher machine is allowed). Before next customer just check the straw is unbroken and does not have any defect. If you have a personalised straw you might also be interested to leave the straw to the customer as a promotional gift.
Although the hand wash is recommended it is easily possible to wash the reusable straws in a dishwasher. Depending on the intense of the usage and precise cleaning materials it might mean a bit shorter lifetime for the straws.
Reusable straws are selected premium quality straws, they have controlled diameter, smoother edges and laser engraved Sutu mark. Single use straws have wider range of diameters (containing also smaller ones), edges might not be as smooth, no improved individual control and no Sutu mark. Still, both are 100% natural, safe to use and look nice.
In our opinion, no. However, this is an all-natural product. In rare cases, some people have said they experienced a slight taste during their first use.
Steel is strong and can last for a long time. Reed is an organic material, it is sustainable, completely compostable and requires much less energy to be produced. Paper straws are easy to become soft inside the drink and between the lips, therefore it might ruin the expected joy for the customer. We like definitely the reed straws 🙂
If everybody is doing a little bit altogether it makes a lot. Beside skipping a plastic straw it is essential to avoid also other single-use plastic such as bags and bottles. It all starts with positive habits.
